Apartment Review
bad managers

The unit I stayed was great. Location is in closed distance to everything. The best feature is the kitchen, it's so large; I visited many apartments in this area, and this kitchen is the largest of the bunch, featuring large counter top for putting a big microwave, mini-toaster, rice-cooker, 2 dish-racks and still a large left over space for preparing to cook. Large walk-in closet; it has a sash to divide from the living space, and still big enough to put my twin size bed and my own dresser. The reason I give low rating is some issue I had with the landlord when moving out. When I moved in, it wasn't complete clean, even the carpet wasn't clean, considering I paid $200 non-refundable deposit for carpet cleaning and processing. If I didn't call her, she wouldn't send somebody to vacuum my carpet. The additional $200 refundable deposit was for the damage/security/cleaning. I made some complaint some miscellaneous cleaning conditions left over from the previous tenant like dusty blinds, window, and kitchen floor under the fridge/oven, and she responded to me that they don't notice anything wrong, if I was not satisfied, I could clean it myself. I was too naive that I didn't write down the conditions in documents and let it go. When I moved out, I followed the list of cleaning: wiping the counter top, sinks, bathtub, walls, floors with detergent, and with bleach for the 2nd round. I used the shower to wash off the dust on blinds and I dusted the heater. I left without the manager being present and left the key to the drop box. 2 weeks later she sent me the condition report that she needed to do the same work I did all over again and deducted $75 from that refundable $200 deposit, and I feel like I'm accused to be a filthy tenant. The unacceptable thing is that she said she needed to pay the cleaning agent for 3 hours for some soap scum on walls, some minor dirt at the corners, and dust on blinds or window and such. If she really did pay my $75 for doing all this, I really wonder how come it wasn't shiny and bright clean AT ALL when I moved in, considering in theory both the previous tenant AND the cleaning agent paid by the previous tenant deposit cleaning after his move out. The lease might be different now, but if there isn't cleaning deposit, for those who move in, make sure you make notes of all conditions of the unit before you move in. Move out with the manager agreeing with you that the apartment is clean and get the full deposit back right away, instead of waiting for 2 weeks finding out they deduct the money without proof of conditions and paying the cleaning agent to do the work you've done many days for cleaning yourself and for the previous tenant.
